He Said It

I don’t want either Democrats or Republicans to make me dependent on government. I want them to create jobs, and not just the entry-level paying ones that continue to create a deeper chasm between the haves and have nots. I want them to help create ones that pay more so we once again have a thriving middle class.

And what about Joe Walsh’s kids? Since he still hasn’t paid his child support, how are his kids getting by?

The Obama Administration Stirs Up A Hornet's Nest In Declaration That The President Supports Gay Marriage

This is a picture that I put up on my facebook page about 6 months ago.  It is what I believe.  I have gay and lesbian friends.  And it doesn’t seem right to me that something that I believe is genetically decided should be the cause of them not being married.  Well, apparently the North Carolina Constitutional Amendment passing by 20 points has prodded President Obama to publicly support gay marriage.  And that is fine by me.  He needs to come out and tell the public what he believes.  And if the people that don’t believe that gay marriage should be legal because of religious views, then they can criticize all they want, but I don’t see them clamoring to follow the laws set out in the bible.  So that argument seems a little hypocritical to me.  Anyways, here is the transcript for President Obama’s proclamation that he supports gay marriage:

“I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married,” he told ABC.

This announcement is a game-changing event in the election of 2012.  Will it hurt or help?  Only time will tell.  But there is one fact that you cannot deny.  Gay marriage is becoming more accepted in America and that at some point in the future, Gay marriage will become the law of the land.  It might not be the next 10 or 20 years, but I would predict within the next 40 years, the anti-gay marriage laws and constitutional amendments passed by many states will become null and void because of Federal statues that say that two people, no matter what sex they are have the right to marry.  And at some point in the future, our descendents will look back at the fights around gay marriage and say that we have evolved and are happy that such backward thinking isn’t around anymore.  Sort of like us and slavery.  Anyways, the next 6 months should be more interesting just because of this announcement.

Do you have $990? I don’t need it but if I want to keep up with middle class people like Ann & Mitt Romney I need to buy a $990 Reed Krakoff Audubon silk t-shirt or it’s equivalent.

I don’t care if the t-shirt was donated to the Romney campaign or if Ann actually bought it. I find it insulting when a candidate tries to identify with the middle class and then wears a t-shirt that costs almost as much as my rent.

But don’t blame the Romneys for their latest faux pas. They’re just middle class people like us, right? [/sarcasm]

He Said It

I’d give you the direct quote but it’s better for you to view this video uploaded to YouTube by San Diego mayoral candidate Nathan Fletcher, who not only announced he’s leaving the GOP but is embracing his Independence.

Unlike most Republicans running for office, Fletcher served in the military. He also supported ending DADT, which automatically makes him too liberal for the GOP.

San Diego deserves better than the same partisan bullsh*t from the likes of Bob Filner and Carl DeMaio. Fletcher’s currently tied for third place in recent polls, but this move and his track record might give him the boost his candidacy needs.

In the open primary only the top two candidates face off in November. I hope Fletcher is one of them.

Sliding Scale

There's a reason why the the political and media right attack Rachel Maddow more than any of the other political show hosts on MSNBC.  Yes, she's the most liberal -- with the possible exception of Dylan Ratigan, they're all liberal obviously -- but the reason why they choose her as the poster child of the liberal media is because she's the one who most has her facts and her act together.  The right has always been very successful at holding someone up and demonizing them, labeling them as something to fear in a successful effort to keep their readers, listeners and partisans from even finding out for themselves what someone stands for.
Many times I've watched her show and felt, like I have with the others, that she's dead right but the difference with her is that she takes you to school and backs it up with lots of facts, evidence and proof.  Watching her first segment two nights ago was a textbook example of this, even more so than usual; but the reason I'm sharing this is because it's a wakeup call.  More often than not her topics of illustration bring to light something even the most informed hadn't thought of or noticed.  Also, there's an excellent interview at the end of the following clip with Maine's Democratic Representative Chellie Pingree regarding this issue and whether she's likely to run for Senator Olympia Snowe's seat.

He Said It

When I heard Andrew Breitbart died this morning of natural causes, the first thing I thought about were some of the things he did. Not only did Breitbart piss on Ted Kennedy’s grave via Twitter, but he also destroyed lives.

Remember Shirley Sherrod? Once upon a time she was the Georgia State Director of Rural Development for the United States Department of Agriculture. Then snippets of video showed she said some racist things in a speech and was forced to resign. Then the truth came out – those snippets were taken out of context and when the unedited video was viewed it was determined to be a Breitbart smear campaign. A civil suit by Sherrod against Breitbart is still ongoing.

Remember the heavily edited ACORN videos? Breitbart was part of the cabal that publicized them and later we found out ACORN did nothing wrong – but they were still defunded by Congress anyway.

And people want us on the left to play nice because he left behind a wife and four kids? I don’t blame people for saying some of the cruel things about him today. With the way Andrew Breitbart chose to conduct himself in the media – and with his media empire – he had it coming. And he knew it.
